Count me in. I’m a Zune Fanatic so I’d probably pick the Zune player since I already have a Zune 30 and I use Media Center religiously and the Zune can play my recorded TV programs. I definitely need a flash based MP3 player too as I run a lot and I can’t use my current player since it’s harddrive based. With all that said, however, the iPod Nano does look very nice. It has a bigger screen and despite not being able to play my recorded TV content, it seems it has more features. So I may pick the nano too. I guess I don’t have to make a decision until I (possibly) win.

p.s. I like how geekazine.com has articles of the latest happenings in gadgets. I also like the soothing green color. Keep up the good work!

This is my first time visiting Geekazine, but i like the fact that it has tons of information and articles talking about technology and gadgets as mentioned by Jaxim. I have to say that you might need some work in the area of design layout, the site can be more integrated with all of the information that it displays. There are a whole bunch of missing graphics or misplaced ones. I’m viewing the site in IE so that might be an issue. Again Thanks! and Good Luck

Jeff Great job on the design and navigation
of your sight. It seem to be much faster.
I never miss ether cast. I know all must take a great deal of your time and I thank you.
Keep up the the good work.

I like the name. It’s catchy. I also like the tag cloud on the left side of the site. It makes it easy to find things that you’re interested in. However, some of the words in the tag cloud overlap one another: i.e. Microsoft and Google. Keep up the great work and the great articles!

I’ve been coming to geekazine.com for a few months and I really like it. In last week’s podcast you mentioned wanting comments with more bad things about the site as opposed to the good. Because I really like your site, I’ll try to be gentle and I’ll be sure to mention the many good things about the site.

    First the good:

    – I find a lot of in depth and odd tech news here that I usually don’t get from the big onling blogs (engadget, gizmodo, etc)

    – I love the new comics generated from bit strips. I can’t wait until it comes out of beta so I can try it out. I also liked how today’s comic was an interview with Albert Einstein, which is fitting since it’s his birthday today. I’m not sure if it was done on purpose, but I appreciated it nonetheless.

    – I love the tech history you include on the site. (Another piece of geek history for you. Did you know today is also Pi Day?)

    – I like how you have both long and 5 minute podcasts. The 5 minute podcasts are great for those suffering from ADD (including me ;-) and it’s a great way to get deep into a subject. While the longer format is a great way to cover a great many subjects and still get in pretty much detail.

    Now for the bad:
    – I would suggest adding more pictures to the articles. At a glance you can tell what an article is about by just looking at the photo.

    – I have a 24″ monitor and there is a lot of wasted space. Everything seems so scrunched together on the site. I think the site needs more negative space to give the reader’s eyes some space to relax.

    – speaking of clutter, perhaps some things can be eliminated or combined. For example, your phone number is on both the left and right columns. Perhaps you can have one location for your phone number and a contact button that leads the user to a page that lists all the ways (twitter, email, myspace, etc) they can contact you. You can do this for the different ways you can subscribe to your show too, by having one navigational button that leads the user to the different ways to subscribe to the different aspects of the site.

    – In regards to the podcast, perhaps you can edit out some of the long pauses. Perhaps you can sometimes have a guest once in awhile on the show to interview or chat about geek news for a portion of theshow.

    – I have a friend who has a zune (I’m so jealous) who I got to listen to a podcast of yours. He tried to subscribe to the podcast using his Zune, but none of the podcasts would download. I’m not sure if this is exclusive to the Zune as I usually come to your site and listen directly from your site.

    – Rather than having a youTube button that takes the reader to your youTube homepage, why not embed the latest youTube video on the front page. (I know, I know. I said not to over crowd your site with stuff, and this definitely may make your site over crowded. However, if you eliminate some things and put things on other pages, perhaps you’ll have room to embed your youTube video. Plus many of us are more attracted to video than text. Just how many people are addicted to books over TV?)

Ok, I think I should stop now before you eliminate me from this contest from saying so many bad things. Maybe I should have ended with the good things first to soften the blow. ;-)

    Remember, I like the site!

Anyway, keep up the great work and come St. Patrick’s Day, I’ll be sure to toast my fellow Irish geek with a few pints.

I like the fact that the host is actually available for chat during my working hours and I can converse with Jeff. The show information is varied but tech centric and well put together.

And the host helped me out in a jam earlier this year.

  • shawnt1971

Great show! I saw it for the first time today and i really enjoy it. The host is very cool and actually responds to your comments and questions in chat. Keep up the good work.

I want a zune but i dont have enough money

  • jvanse

Hey Jeff… I found your podcast while on the Tech Podcast Network. I’ve always liked the latest in gadgets and gizmos. So I added you into my que. I’ve only listened to episode 30 and like what you have there.

    Keep up the good content

  • Jaxim

Good job with the bitstrips. That’s one of the reasons (among many) that I keep coming back to the site.

BTW, what happened to the previous comments to this post? It says there are 12 responses before this one, but I can only see 2 other responses?

  • http://www.mrrofl.com/ Dan Conderman

I would like to comment on the UStream vidcast. I want to say that it is really good looking video, the sound is ok. But I would suggest getting rid of the wacky graphics. If you wanted to have a “screen shot” area that would be cool. But all the other stuff changing and moving is really distracting. Also, do you script (outline) out your show? I would suggest that you do that if you don’t already. I have watched and noticed that you are talking about something, then you read something on-screen. I know it can be hard since you might not have another for a live audeince, but remmember that if people find you, they will want to see previous shows. Other then that, keep up the good work. BTW, I honestly didn’t know you were a geek till a couple months ago.

  • TybeeGuy

Hi Jeff, I was the guy in Ustream today watching the re-takes over and over… Keep up the great work and I’ll send you a invite to my first live Ustream recording…:).. Cheers, Tybee Guy

  • Norbtek

I have to thank Jeff for helping me out back at the beginning of the year when I had a bout with laryengitis. He, and others, helped actually do my podcast for about 1 week. I discovered Jeff’s site and show and was hooked. Great info and nice Ustream show and chat.

  • ePic

Mr. Powers, you have one awesome show. You keep the topics interesting and very informative. Now that I’ve said that, I would like a Zune please, and thank you. :-)

  • collegetechcentral

    Hey Jeff,
Got your site off of Twitter. When thinking about stuff to say about the website and show, I think my biggest feedback would be that the sidebars are very cluttered. My personal taste is a bit more subtle and streamlined but I understand needing to make a living.

If you’re looking to do a redesign, I might look into a 3 column where the content is all the way to the left, then you have your media links and nav, then reserve the 3rd column at far right for adverts and sponsorship. I like that sort of optimization if you will.

I’ve started looking back at the shows and enjoy them. It seems you and I have similar problems with encoding quality just ravishing the file when converting to MP3 – are you using Audacity?

    Best,
    James Connors

Geekazine podcast rocks! It’s nice knowing about the latest tech news so I can outgeek my friends and bring things up before they do! :D I like how you break out the “this week in tech history” into its own 5-min segment; any longer than that would be difficult for an ADD-er like myself. The parody songs are entertaining and fun. Great variety. I haven’t been able to participate in the live show because it’s normally while I am at work, but maybe someday I’ll play hooky and run to the nearest WiFi cafe and check it out. Thanks for the good listening that keeps me entertained while I am exercising, working at my computer, etc. KEEP IT UP! \m/
