It’s interesting how much work I not only had to catch up on, but also the work I created. The CES trip was fabulous – it took me to a place I have never been before. In all reality, I have never wanted to go to Las Vegas. The sounds of a casino can get annoying after a while for me. Yet, it really wasn’t as bad as I thought.
We stayed at the Monte Carlo – which I have to say I was not impressed with at all. Todd is campaigning the fact that the $14 – a – night internet connection was not great. While I agree with him, I had some other issues that really make me want to not stay there.
I actually changed rooms during the stay. The construction of their Civic Center was annoying (which I know is not their fault, but really – who drops steel beams at 5 AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning? That could have been done during the week). The reason why I moved rooms was initially because of two things – 1. They said the internet would be faster in another room (yeah, right) and when the other rooms took a shower, I would hear loud rattling by the pipes. The move to the next room subsided the pipe rattling, but you could hear the water draining no matter what room you were in.
Well, it’s 2 days away. I fly out to the Consumer Electronics show. It’s a very interesting time for me and even now I am anxious about the trip. Still looking for Sponsors, so if you have a product you want to promote, let me know and we’ll work out the details.
I get into Vegas around 11 AM. Podcast will be done from Vegas (still need to find a good headset mic). The LIVE Show, though is still on. We have 2 great Panelists and will talk some great tech. If you haven’t watched the video from last week with Rob Greenlee from Zune and Gary Leland from Podcast Pickle, then you are missing out. It was a great 2 1/2 hour show.
Well, I finally scraped up my quarters and nickels to get the plane ticket and Hotel reservations for VEGAS BABY!! This will be my first ever trip to Vegas. It’s a little nerve racking, but also extremely exciting.
I will be staying at the Monte Carlo. I am arriving at 11 AM PST on January 6th 2009. Will be there until 6:30 AM on January 12th. Hopefully there will be no snow in Vegas.
This will be an Awesome week with Todd Cochrane and Andy McCaskey. We will be running Back Channel, High def content and a lot more on the TechPodcasts Channel. In addition I will be pushing out photos and Blogs throughout the weekend.
I am writing this while watching and listening to the 24 hour podcast. This is the 2nd annual show where Todd stays up a full 24 hours talking with others. I have already been on the show with questions throughout the day. I will be with Andy McCaskey talking CES at about 8 PM EST.
This week I broke down and went to the Doctor. We found out that it was Bronchitis and I got the appropriate medication to resolve the cough. Everything has gotten a lot better except for the hearing. The ears are so plugged up I figure I have about 25-30% loss. The Doctor says it will subside.
I am now closing a 3rd week of being sick. The interesting part is it’s not the same symptoms as when first got sick 3 weeks ago. This last week has been a lot of coughing – otherwise, I feel drained, but fine. Although I am not a doctor (nor play one on TV), I do believe it’s Acute Bronchitis, in which the results would be to drink liquids, vaporize and let mother nature do the rest. I have upped my vitamin intake, too.
Anywho, this illness has stopped me from doing a lot of things, like last weeks “Week in Tech History” and this weeks Video review section. I know it’s starting so subside (I can actually lie down to sleep now), so I believe it’s taking it’s natural course.
I looked back at all the articles I wrote in the last couple weeks and it really does sound like a broken record. For that I have to apologize. I really don’t want to subject you to stuff like that – although I will mention it from time to time.
I will make a concerned effort at this point to not mention to much about being ill. I am also working on making sure no future Podcasts or Quickcasts will be missed.
Thanks to all that did bear with me in the last couple weeks. Now it’s time to bear down and get the content out. Prepare for CES and hit the floor running.
Also, thanks for all that gave “get well” wishes. I appreciate that.
Earlier this week I hosted a Podcaster meeting for this area. I wanted to get to know the Podcasters and maybe strike up a good conversation. You never know who can help who, right?
Anywho I found out about OpenEverything – a meeting of everything ‘Open’. Mostly in a technology realm, but Open can be applied to many other areas. Music, Art, Science, Ferrule….
Now I was planning to be watching the PodcastAwards today, but this was an all-day event. I figured I’d go, then slip out around 30 minutes before the awards and catch both. However, I got so enthralled with the event, I decided to stay. It was only too bad I couldn’t make it when the event started because they had the Berlin event hand it off to us via web conference.
I have to admit, I sat down to get ready to write and I looked over at my lonely Sigma Guitar. It starred back at me like a puppy dog wanting to be petted. So I picked it up and started playing.
For those of you who don’t know, I am a musician and an avid FAWMer – February Album Writing Month. It’s a challenge to write 14 songs in 28 days. I did so for a couple years now. So a lot of the music I did tonight was from my personal songs.
I did do a song called “MySpace Friends” which you can find up on www.myspace.com/jeffreypowers. You can hear a few of the songs I’ve written there.
Well, this week was the one for 2 main things – getting all the Podcast media Back up and running and starting the plans for the Consumer Electronics Show – CES. It will be my first trip to LV and I will get there – by hook or by crook. Hopefully not the latter.
I spent the week getting a good video camera that is portable and will work well. I did a couple reviews and will send them out next week. Once I have that done, we will begin reviewing more items. Let me know if you have a geek toy you want to review.
As you know, my media has been down for a while. I have kept Quickcasts relavant, but the first 52 Podcasts have been taken down until the hunt for a new media server has been found. It was a hard decision, but it had to be done.
Well I am happy to announce I have all the media loaded up to the new server and am ready to reactivate it. I am taking this 1 step at at time because when I do it, the other podcasts might get affected. Therefore, I will be making plans tomorrow and hopefully by Monday this issue will be in the past.
Because of the Media move, I have registered a new Domain: JMPEnterprise.com. It’s my parent website. You will mostly be going to that site to get media and to inquire about my services.
On Tuesday, I went to take a shower like I normally do. Water wasn’t cold, but it wasn’t hot. I finished and got out, then went down to the water heater. Pilot light was out. OK – relight and move on, which is what I did.
Wednesday the shower was once again not that hot. I figured it was because I didn’t turn up the heater to the regular level. I left it alone, but found out later the pilot light went out again.
Today is the Roundtable, I will be presenting WordPress 2.7, the newest version of the Blog CMS that is in Beta at this point. We are also talking with Mobicip on Child Protection and TechForward on the CompUSA and Tiger Direct Buyback program.
We had another steller week. It all started on Monday with the LIVE Show, Jerri Ellsworth Showed up and talked about her game room. It was a great show and very unexpected.
