Is iTunes Cleaning up Podcasts? the Official Letter
Welcome to Geekazine!

Yesterday on the Podcast, I talked about an email I received from iTunes. The story is an old podcast I ran up until last year was stillĀ  up on their site. I took everything down to make it go away and the listing stayed up on the site. I continued to get 404 errors (page missing) from my site error page, so I put the XML back up.

Finally on Monday I recieved the take down notice. It was really surprising since iTunes never really cleaned up the mess before. I had a few people ask me to post the letter, so here it is:

Dear Podcast Owner
Your podcast has been removed from the iTunes Store because no new episodes have been added in the past several months.
Name: Independent Music Podcast

If you feel that the material in the podcast remains relevant to iTunes users, please feel free to resubmit the podcast here:

If this is the case, we might be seeing a cleanup effort on Apples part. Let’s hope so - This is a great resource and if maintained can be a valuable tool. It also promotes iTunes by the vast amount of free content in an easy-to-use format.

Of course, time will tell. After all, this might just be a one-time thing. Maybe it wasn’t even initiated by Apple - enough people reported the broken xml and Apple finally responded. If that is the case, it’s time for an email campaign….
