HP Z1 G2 All-In-One Workstations for Powerful Editing

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhile at NAB 2015, I checked out the powerful Z desktops and the Z1 G2 All-in-one workstation. This is a 27-inch touchscreen all-in-one. Inside is an Intel – i3,i5, i7 or Xeon E3 processor – DDR3 non-ECC RAM at 1866 MHz, Intel or NVidia graphics and more. The HP Z1 G2 is easy to open to fix or replace parts. Simply slide it down, and open the top up from the latches in the front. The hydraulic arms keep the unit from crashing down. Green tabs show you where you unlock-and-pull to take out hard drives, memory, fans, and more. Other features include an internal USB for wireless mice or any special dongles that need to be locked up. Sony Xperia Z3v is a Powerful Android Smartphone

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIn the last few weeks I got to use the Sony Xperia Z3v smartphone on the Verizon network. Being a big fan of the Z2 tablet, I was excited to really delve into the cool features of the Z3v phone and use in tandem with the tablet. Lets start with the specs of this device. The Sony Xperia Z3v is a LTE phone running Android KitKat. The phone has a 5.2 inch display on the 5.75 x 2.83 inch enclosure. The 3100 mAh battery allows up to 920 hours standby and more important – a 16 hour battery for Facebook, Twitter, photos and the occasional phone call. The cameras on the Z3v include a 20 MP with auto focus, but only a 2.2 front face camera. Just like the Z2, if you close up all the doors, this phone is waterproof –...

Interview Microphones: Shure SM58 vs. Audio Technica AT8004L, ATR-2100

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSI chose to upgrade my podcast Interview microphone to something that actually had a longer handle. In doing the research, I found the Audio-Technica AT8004L had a lot of the features I needed, including the long handle. So when I received the mic, I had to make sure it was going to do as good of a job as my Shure SM58. I also realized that most podcasters also have the Audio-Technica ATR-2100 USB/XLR handheld microphone. I wanted to make sure they were represented as well. Shure SM58 A great microphone to use in many different situations. The SM58 is synonymous for musicians, and I’ve used it in my podcast rig since I started podcasting. My first 2-3 podcast episodes originate from this microphone before it went into the road rig. The Shure SM58 is a Unidirectional (or Cardioid) pattern microphone. The SM58...

Kinoma Create: JavaScript-Powered IoT Construction Kit

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhile at SXSW, I got a chance to talk with Andy Carle, Ph.D. about Marvell’s Kinoma Create. This is a device that allows you to create and learn hardware and software through the “Internet of Things” (IoT). We stood in front of a Labyrinth as Andy controlled the marble using the Kinoma. This device does a lot more than that. You can learn how to create and setup many different things. We saw a LED light change colors with the interface and a basic Red Blue Green toggle. Another Kinoma was set up to unlock a door. Sensors attached to another Kinoma could tell the temperature and time. The Kinoma create comes with a capacitive touchscreen, Wifi, Bluetooth, speaker and microphone unit, USB, micro SD card, battery compartment (AA Batteries) and a serial console port. Projects are found through Kinoma, or independent...

Saloote is the Best Way to Collaborate with Others Through Your IOS Device

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSSometimes musicians just want to jam with others. It gets difficult because there might not be others around. But Saloote might be able to help as it uses your iPhone to record and mash up videos to create your virtual band. Saloote is an app that allows you to sing or play an instrument with your favorite song. You could be all about that Bass, Happy, or just want to stay together. You record your track and look for other instrumentalists to help give you that one-of-a-kind sound. If you find someone better, simply replace them in the mash-up. Create videos and share them with friends. You might even be able to practice with some musicians in another town to see if they could actually play out when you get there. Dylan even mentioned a collaboration version, which will be in a...

Domainskate Helps You Protect Your Domain’s Intellectual Property

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhile at SXSW, I ran into Howard Greenstein, COO of Domainskate. We got a chance to sit down and talk about protecting your domain’s identity on the web and how Domainskate.com can help in that. Big name companies have seen this – people try to cash off your idea. For instance, Apple Watch is coming, so there are hundreds trying to get similar domain names so they can try to get some of the massive traffic Apple will see. Therefore, Apple lawyers will be busy on the taking down of those sites. Domainskate is for the smaller businesses who still have to worry about those posers. You simply enter your domain and the service will start monitoring it. If it sees any suspicious activity, you will get notified. One of the issues most domain owners see is the email from another country...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhile at the Paypal lounge at SXSW 2015, I got to hear Sir Mix A Lot talk about the projects he works on. Thats where I first heard about Zuta. This is a personal printer that can fit in a bag and print anything when paired to a phone or other mobile device. Zuta Personal Printer The Zuta printer is a device shaped like a teardrop. 2015 Ford Edge First Drive

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSFord has redesigned their Ford Edge CUV for 2015. They invited me to come down to Scottsdale, AZ and take this car through its paces. I got to ride in one last year before production to check out the new park assist features. I also got a first-hand look at the newest version of the in-car computer called Sync3. Now it’s time to get an idea of how the rest of the CUV operates. About the 2015 Ford Edge The Ford Edge Crossover is clean and sleek with a lot of great additions. The 2 liter Ecoboost engine had a lot of power to it with a six-speed transmission and paddle capabilities to get this guy running through the city pretty quick. For those who need more power, the V6 would be the better alternative as it really can punch on the...
