Daigo and Justin Wong Re-create Evo Moment 37

For the first part of this article, I want to take you back to a gaming tournament called Evolution 2004. At the time, a gamer called Daigo was facing off against Justin Wong in Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. It was a top-8 match where the winner could only advance to the next round if they won two out of 3 games. However, it was during this first game that Daigo create what has now become known as Evo Moment 37. Take a look at this amazing footage of this moment in action. As you will see from the grainy footage, it was hands down one of the most amazing things to happen in the history of fighting game tournaments. More importantly, Daigo was able to pull off a solid execution to take that first game. However, he went on to take 2nd place. Fast forward to a...

Amazon Fire TV Stick vs. Fire TV: A Two TV Solution Under $200

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSEarlier this year Amazon announced the FireTV – a competitor to the Roku and Apple TV. Doubling the specs of both devices, this became my goto choice for over the top television. Now, Amazon has come out with their lower cost version in the Fire TV Stick – mostly to compete with Chromecast and Roku Stick. This $40 device plugs right into your HDMI port in the TV, with a combined power USB cable which – depending on the TV you own – can be powered right through the USB port for a cord-free TV. Before we accellerate on the subject: keep in mind you DO NOT need an Amazon Prime subscription to own or use Fire TV. It does enhance the experience with more content. You can easily just run Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and other apps on Fire TV but I...

Motorola Moto-X 2nd Generation with Bamboo Back

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSMost of my phones that I’ve owned made mostly of plastic – From the Nokia 910 to the Razr, iPhone and even the Nexus 5 I currently own. If I ever wanted another texture, I would buy the case. But a phone with a wood back – Better yet, a Bamboo back? What a change in experience THAT is… I am taking a look at the 2nd Generation Moto X in Bamboo, which is now available on the Verizon network. This is one of three backing plates for the device. Also in leather and plastic, along with a soon-to-be released teak, walnut and ebony models, the Moto X not only doesn’t need a case, it IS its own case. The best part is how well it feels in your hand. In the last year I’ve held onto some small, medium and big...

Taking the Amtrak Train: Walkthrough of the Roomette Sleeper Car

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSJennifer and I took a vacation to New York City. Instead of flying out, we did something a little more unorthodox in this day and age – took the train. From Chicago to New York City, we clacked around the Midwest and East coast with the Amtrak Cardinal line, coming home via the Amtrak Lakeshore. An amazing experience that not only let us see the sights but also appreciated the travel. Walkthrough of the Amtrak Roomette Sleeper Car There are three ways to travel via the train – in the coach seating, through a Roomette or the Viewliner bedroom. We stayed in the roomette through our travel, but I was also able to walkthrough the higher end viewliner. The roomette is a 3.5 foot by 6 foot room for two people the two seats turn into a single sleeper bed while a...

HERO4 Black from GoPro: Record 4K or 1080p 120fps

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIt’s been an awesome time here in Vegas – I’ve been covering a conference and during the down time I’ve been playing with this – the GoPro HERO4 Black edition. This is the newest GoPro camera for live action recording. You might have seen skydivers, skateboarders, custom car owners, and other groups create some awesome video and this little device is ususally taking the video. As you can see, its a little larger than a box of Tictacs – with the waterproof case you could easily fit it in your pocket ready for any life moment to happen. There are three buttons on the HERO4 – a power button, shutter button and settings button. Each button has multiple options so you can create video, take stills or continuous shots. The best part is the quality of the HERO4. This camera can take...

Podcast Microphones: Audio-Technica ATR2100 vs. IK Multimedia iRig mic HD

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWe have another podcast microphone showdown as I look at two USB podcast mics that you can use for recording audio. Audio-Technica’s popular ATR2100 USB/XLR hybrid microphone and IK Multimedia’s iRig Mic HD USB/iPad microphone. I have pitted the 2100 against the 2500 but now we’re looking at podcast microphone vs. podcast microphone. You can use these microphones with all iOS, Mac and PC software. These microphones will not work on an Android phone without 3rd party adapters. IK Multimedia iRig Mic HD This is a Condenser microphone only in USB format. The micro USB cord is interchangable with USB, iOS 30-pin and lightning cables. One side of the microphone is a db volume dial and the other is an indicator light. The light is blue during passive sound states, green when signal is coming through and red if the signal is clipping. The iRig...

The Future of Terrestrial TV with ATSC 3.0 and FUTURECAST

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSLast night I got to experience something just as amazing as the first television broadcast signal in 1928. Ultra HD content broadcast from a tower only a few miles away. With the new ATSC 3.0 format was a technology developed by LG and Zenith called FUTURECAST. I sat down and talked with industry professionals to find out more about this concept. What is ATSC 3.0 It stands for Advanced Television Systems Commitee. Currently, DTV runs on ATSC 1.0, which pushes a MPEG-2 or H.264 video across airwaves. This is a one-way signal that can get easily interrupted if you have poor line-of-sight with your TV tower. I live less than a mile from towers and my signal was always poor-to-moderate. ATSC 3.0 is the newest revision that improves greatly on performance and bandwidth. In order to do so, it is not as backwards...

DJI Phantom II Drone: How to Assemble and First Flight

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhile in Vegas last week I became a proud owner of a DJI Phantom II quadro-copter drone. An amazing and stable flying unit which can be moved around using a remote controller. Today, the weather was nice enough to really take this for a spin. About the DJI Phantom II I have been excited to use one of these ever since I saw it at NAB and talked with Willis from DJI. The Phantom II is a RC copter that can run for 25 minutes on a fully charged LiIon 5200mAh battery. The 4-blade copter allows for stabilization and can become very static in mid-air. The Phantom II weighs only 2.2 lbs with battery and no gimble. I would expect with a GoPro attached the weight is more toward 2.5 lbs. The controller operates on a WiFi signal – either 2.4 or...

Veeam’s Non-Virtualization Tool in EndPoint Backup Free

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSVeeam announced the release of their newest line in Freeware – the Veeam EndPoint Backup Free. This is software for those businesses whom are not completely virtual but still need to tend to critical machines. This can be anyone’s machine from your Boss to your Mother. Veeam started around 2006 with a tool to backup virtual machines in Veeam Backup Free edition. The freemium model has worked well for them, and along with their other software Veeam continues to innovate. The Veeam EndPoint Backup Free is targeted for laptops and desktops running Windows 7 or better. It also backs up Windows Server 2008 and better. I sat down and talked with Rick Vanover during their “VeeamOn” conference in Las Vegas, NV. He was adamant that although Veeam didn’t have a roadmap with this product, it does have a direction. EndPoint Backup Free...

Microsoft Makes Project Spark Free on XBox One and Windows 8.1 PCs

Earlier on in the year, you might remember that Microsoft announced a game called Project Spark. It allows players to create their own games and worlds (including a pinball game).  It’s been in beta for a while now, but it has finally become a full, finished game. Better still, Microsoft have released the game and it’s available right now for the XBox One and Windows 8.1. Additionally, I am really glad to report that Project Spark is going to be free to download! Incidentally, there will also be a phsyical version that you can buy with This seems like quite an interesting move in that they already own Mojang(the people behind Minecraft). However, it also seems like they are trying to compete with other games such as LittleBigPlanet. Incidentally, there is also a trend of games that are based around user-generated content so it also makes sense for...
