Canon Unreal Bowling Makes the Game New Again

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | RSSI remember biking to my local bowling alley for 10 frames of fun and frustration. I was even on a league where I couldn’t figure out how to break 200. Nowadays, bowling is a sport that is losing interest as alleys are closing down. But can something like Unreal Bowling bring the excitement back? While at Infocomm 2016, I got to check out the “Unreal Bowling” by Canon and Crunchy Logistics. Using sensors and their Canon REALiS Projectors, they were able to give the lanes an interactive upgrade. Flip through the menus to choose what you want to do on the lane. You can attack Pumpkins, run the ball across a piano, see Fireworks and much more. This can even turn one game into many to bring excitement to the weekend-bowler. This is not a cheap investment as a simple lane like this starts...

What is HPE Labs “The Machine” at HPE Discover

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | RSSIf someone was to ask you to draw a computer, you would probably draw an opaque box with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. In the last few years, the vision changed ever so slightly with some possibly drawing a laptop or tablet. But a computer is so much more and it’s starting to lose it’s physical body. Just like with the “Star Trek” theme we saw all that week at HPE Discover. I got to talk with Martina Trucco about what Hewlett Packard Enterprise Labs (HPE) saw as “The Machine”. They created an interactive sculpture where you could go inside and see the interactions from the items we use everyday (and might not even know it). From the cell phone in our pockets, to the towers that replicate and push out those signals, and finally, the destination of your communications – whether to one...

360 Video Driving over Golden Gate Bridge in San Francsico, California

Last week Jennifer and I took a trip to San Francisco for a wedding / pseudo holiday. It was also Jennifer’s first time in San Fran, so we spent the week checking out the sites and being more touristy than I ever though I could be.  Didn’t mean I couldn’t be geeky, too. The first 4 days we were in Sonoma Valley and Petaluma, CA. We toured the Kunde Winery, had oysters along the Pacific Coast Highway, and did a lot of driving on roads that were narrow and curvy. What a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend! Our car was a Fiat 500x for the week we got from Enterprise rental. We got a weekly deal at $165, which was great for being a holiday weekend. The 2015 Fiat was fun to drive and the 180 horsepower engine could handle the hilly and winding roads of...

Samsung Galaxy S7 Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | RSSSamsung makes solid phones – period. That definitely goes for the Galaxy S7. Whether the S7 or the S7 Edge, you can’t go wrong with a Samsung Android – especially if you are going to use it for your VR experience. The folks at Verizon have given me this device to play with. I took it to Vegas with me for a major conference, so let’s start with the specs, then get into the pros and cons. Keep in mind the S7 and the S7 edge are almost exactly the same phone. The big difference is the bevelled edge that can also give you a display ticker on the side. I am personally not a fan of the Edge phone, so the S7 is perfect for my needs. The phone is a 5.1 inch display screen at at resolution of 2560×1440 with Corning Gorilla...

Case Logic Kontrast DSLR Camera Case Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | RSSWhen I travel with my camera gear, I look for a backpack that can hold everything I need for the plane, then have easy access when it comes to shooting. In my production, I don’t use DSLRs – I have prosumer cameras. Therefore, I need a slightly different organization over what a camera person would. The Kontrast Pro by Case Logic is a simple backpack that can hold all camera gear, a laptop and tablet easily. The nylon case with plastic base allows the case to never fold in on itself. Inside is a velcro compartment area that you can change to your needs. Perfect for a camera and around 9 different lenses. Overall, the size is 12.2 inches wide by 9.4 inches deep by 18.5 inches high. It will easily pass as a carry-on and even fit easily in some of the smaller...
