I was shoked to hear you say you are installing Windows 7 64-bit. I have to assume you know all the pro’s and con’s. But let me review my thoughts and hopefully stear you in the right direction.
When you install a 64-bit Windows all of your drivers need to be compiled for 64-bit. If your hardware vendor doesnt offer a 64 bit version, then you are out of luck. Not the end of the world for the most part… but if you have older printers, webcams, etc plan on replacing them. Next, last I knew Adobe Flash was not compiled and available for 64-bit. Thus you have to run IE8 in 32-bit mode to use Flash. Last, I never noticed any speed or stability improvements or enhancments running 64-bit.
I can ONLY recommend Windows 64-bit if you have more then 3Gigs of RAM. As I am sure you know, 32-bit OS’s are unable to address and use more then 3 gigs of RAM.

Hey Dan. Yep – 4 Gigs of RAM, quad-core AMD machine. All my device drivers are up to date and no problems as of yet. Still loading software, but most important is I have the XP drive still in the system and ready to boot up in a moments’ notice.
It was all planned…
