1986 -$21.00 a share was the first price for stock in Microsoft. 2.5 million shares were sold, raising the price to 27.75 and netting the company 61 million initially. Since then, the highest it has gone was 57.91 on Dec 24th, 1999. Yet with about 10 stock splits and several dividends in the 24 years, people definitely got their money’s worth. If you would have purchased 100 shares in 1986 and let those shares ride until today, you would have 102,400 shares of stock at appx. $29 a share.

Late 90’s – The one interesting thing about looking at tech history is you can see trends. One trend I’ve been seeing in the last few days around the late 90’s was the amount of websites getting hacked. Groups like Legions of Underground, cArPaRtS nInJa TaSk FOrc3? and L|Z gained names for themselves over busting into other websites.
Then, in 1999, chairman of the President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion: John Koskinen publicly pleads mercy with hackers to create a moratorium during the Y2K time.

The duo decided that making their own game – rather than having 3rd parties do it – would help keep costs down. They then turned an old Roller rink and converted to a production line. Pong was the first successful video game system.
