Mobile Games on the Rise 0

Mobile Gaming on the Rise, Big Business for Some [Infographic]

I talk about them on my show iPad365. You might have a few of them on your smartphone or tablet. They might be simple games – sliding a wood block around – to complex games that take you to new worlds to destroy beasts. They could even just connect you with others to show your mental capacities. These are the games of the mobile device. And they are proving to become big business for some. Companies like Zynga grow on the mobile gaming platform. They produce games that are free, and paid games. Usually, the free games come with in-app upgrades. Sometimes to turn off the iAds, other times to add levels, get more power-ups so you can do something a little faster, and more. This has all added up to big dollars for some. Just to the point that more people play games on their device than...

Sococo: Second Life for Your Office – CES 2012

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIn this day and age, a business doesn’t need to have a physical location. Heck, the employees might not even be in the same state or country. It’s called “Virtual organizations” – Your programmer might be in Ohio, your web developer in Florida and the graphic designer is in Germany. Nonetheless, you need to make sure they are continually productive in what they do. That is where Sococo comes in. They provide an integrated tool which creates a virtual office – cubicles, offices, common areas, meeting rooms. Each employee gets and avatar, so you can pass by your programmer and actually have a conversation with them. If you cannot be bothered, set your avatar to “Private” and others will know. Meet online, share documents and more. There is an option for VoIP, bringing all the online communication tools together in one area. Prices start...

How Ford Learned from Avatar: Motion Capture – #fordtrends

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSLast year when I went out to Dearborn, MI, we saw a lot with virtualization. A mock-up car where you put on the gloves and glasses, then saw yourself move around in that virtual world. However, Ford has taken it to a new level – by simply watching how Hollywood does it. More to the point – the movie Avatar. In this area, we look at how a person gets into and out of a car. They can go from a compact, to a heavy duty cab. The frame and bucket seats will re-adjust for the next vehicle. It’s called HOPS – Human Occupant Package Simulator. It not only can record a driver getting in and out, but also a passenger. Using the motion capture suit, the subject will get into and out of the car. The motion capture cameras will document...

Kids Walker Exoskeleton – Your 5 Year Old Wants Your Lunch Money

Remember the exoskeleton suit in Avatar that Col. Miles Quaritch got into or the suit that Obadiah Stane used in Iron Man? Thought to yourself – I want one? Well, maybe you can get that for not only you, but also your kids. The Kids Walker Exoskeleton suit is a big mechanical robot that you control. Sit down in the chair and navigate through the foot pedals and hand joysticks. And yes – this model is meant for Kids. The company – Sakakibara – not only makes exoskeletons, but also food mixing machines. Pretty interesting combination. The other exoskeleton looks like ED209 from RoboCop. They also have other toys at the plant, like a really cool skateboard looking transport. The Kids Walker doesn’t really walk – it rolls while the legs move around looking like it’s walking. The functionality is really limited, but it’s a toy – don’t expect...
