Well the big news from Google today was Google Buzz. Not to be confused with Yahoo Buzz – which might cause some friction because they are both social networks. Some even say it’s trying to be Facebook.
Google Buzz is GMail in real time. You can add to email in real time. Kinda like Wave does, except it can be on a personal level. It has some Twitter functionality – @geekazine will be recognized. You can even speak in your comments and they will be transcribed.
Buzz will also be available for the mobile phone. A little Augemented 2D action – Hit the Nearby option on Google Maps in the phone and find out what others are saying. Geotagged Buzz posts will show you what is being said. Another movie premier killer option right there.
Here is where you can see a commercial about Google Buzz. It won’t be available for everyone just yet, But you know you have it when you look under your “Inbox” and it says “Buzz”. Technically it’s in Beta, although they don’t seem to be calling it a Beta.
The iPhone app is simply a link to the page you can place on your Home screen. I instantly saw my Buzz and a comment from someone only a few miles away from me. Moved the Map over to CA and there was a lot of Buzz.
It will be interesting how this application will cultivate. Will it be a Facebook Killa? Will it change the way we use E-Mail? Will the “G” in GMail become GeoTag Mail? Will Yahoo sue Google for “Buzz”? Only time will tell. What do you think of this new innovation from Google?
1995 – Compuserve blocks access to over 200 sites that have explicit content. They do it to avoid issue with the German Government. The sites will be blocked until Feb 13, 1996 when all but 5 sites are restored.

2007 – Lulu.com is a site that allows people to publish their own books. Hulu.com is an online video site. Still, Lulu felt that Hulu was way too close to their name, so they decided to file a lawsuit for similarity.
Similarity of what?
Now if you want to go sue someone who is backed by NBC Universal, you have a lot of marbles. Nonetheless, it sounds more like a publicity stunt for Lulu to get their name out. Well, the lawsuit was dropped on Oct. 22, and Hulu.com launched in Beta. Ultimately, by March 12th, 2008, Hulu.com was officially launched.

In 1993, Chris Clark purchased Pizza.com. He figured it would be a great domain to have. Boy was he right, but it took him 15 years to realize it.
After a couple attempts he decided to squat on the domain for a while – That is until last year. Chris decided after he heard Business.com was sold for 7 Million to try auctioning off his domain. He contracted the domain selling site Sedo.com to help out.
The end result: Chris sold the domain for $2.6 Million.

Todd Cochrane is heading to Japan, so he’s putting up as much video he can. Therefore, I’ve been putting up all the videos. Add in the Backchannel posts and I’ve doubled the amount of articles on Geekazine for the next few weeks. Nonetheless, I am willing to sacrifice the time to get these videos up.
I also started getting back into the swing of things. Bitstrips, Quickcasts and the Podcast. Of course, there was no LIVE Show on Monday due to a very special day of mine. I ended up spending the day celebrating. Although I took the day off, it turned out I had to get some work done. Oh well – it’s all for the cause, right?
I did 2 things I never thought I would – I ate SPAM and installed Windows 7 Beta. Last week I got a laptop up and running that I didn’t expect would work. I basically bought it for parts, but when I found out there was no problems with it, I started buying parts to turn it into the second laptop.

Today is the Roundtable, I will be presenting WordPress 2.7, the newest version of the Blog CMS that is in Beta at this point. We are also talking with Mobicip on Child Protection and TechForward on the CompUSA and Tiger Direct Buyback program.
We had another steller week. It all started on Monday with the LIVE Show, Jerri Ellsworth Showed up and talked about her game room. It was a great show and very unexpected.
That’s great, it started with video tapes, movies in the home at 8, Lenny Bruce is still not afraid. I remember when we got our first VCR. It was a Betamax and we had some of the coolest movies. Of course, the Beta went the way of the do do bird. Then it was VHS. Come and almost gone.
Now it’s the DVDs turn. Earlier in the year the big question was “Who was going to replace DVD’s: HD DVD or Blu-Ray?” Now we know that answer – but does it matter? Blu-Ray players really haven’t been selling like hotcakes and if you have one, you know that it’s not the fastest thing on the planet. The ultimate irony is that Sony owned Beta and lost to VHS. Now Sony won with Blu-Ray, but will that only be a small win as alternate formats are entering into the market?
