Running out of battery on your iPhone – and soon iPad – can become a pain. You just want to get that one thing done and – as Scotty would say – “I just don’t have enough power, captain”. If you are in an important college lecture or business meeting, for instance, and forgot to charge the device the night before, this can become a real nightmare.

Enter in Hypershop. They have the Hypermac Mini, Hypermac micro and Hypermac nano to charge your different Apple devices. Todd Cochrane talks with Jennifer about these great products.

hypermac2

The nano is the smallest and most impressive. With 1800mAh, you should be able to get about 2 charges out of this device that is as small as a lighter. Compared to a Mophie (1200mAh), the Hypermac Nano will charge faster and give you at least one full charge, which is good for the battery.

The Hypermac Micro and Mini are great for Camping, Outdoor events, or the meeting or lecture that doesn’t have any access to a power source. The iPad battery is 25W, so even the 60Wh model should be able to give you a few more hours of work time.

Each battery is of Millitary grade and will be good for 1000 charges. Each device will even come with cables so you don’t have to move them around from one area to another.

If you don’t have an Apple product, that is O.K. Hypermac also makes a mini for your Blackberry, HTC or any device with a mini USB connector.

Businesses, Auto enthusiasts, Hobbyists and Parents of teens, listen up. If you have a car 1996 and newer and need to find out how a vehicle was driven, then the Davis Car Chip Pro is for you.

This device connects to the diagnostic board on the computer. It will collect all data – accellerations, decellerations, start and stop times and a lot more. You can even set it up to beep at you if one accellerates or brakes too hard. It re-trains your brain on how to drive.

Andy McCaskey talks with Michael from Davis. They talk about how to get the information out of the Car Chip Pro. For $119, you get the chip, cables and software with no subscription fees and free updates.

For the longest time, we have been told that Blades are better than servers. Well, what would be better than that?

Extreme Scale out.

I talk with Doug about the “Skinless Server”. We look at the DL-6000 SL-160, SL-170z,SL 2×170 a pull out server with the cables in the front for easy access. With the cords in the front, they don’t block the cooling in the back.

You might remember the products. You might remember the hype. Then, you are tooling down highway 41 years later and all of a sudden you think to yourself – “Hey, whatever happened to…”

Failed ideas. Maybe it was a great idea, but wasn’t made right, or design errors brought it down. Maybe it was just a bad product. Well, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and see if we cannot repeat these errors again.

Oh yeah, why 16? Well because we could.

The Computer Watch: Whether it was the Ruputer, the MSN Direct ‘Smart’ Watches, the Timex Data Link Watch or another gadget watch – BTW – I remember having a “Transformers watch”. It was awesome!

Still, the Dick Tracey style communication watches, the “Computer on a wrist”, never really hit it off. I even remember a watch that gave you directions. You would put in the paper tape and turn a little dial to indicate where you are and where you are going.transformers-watch

When it comes to running a presentation on a big monitor, you either need a long VGA cable, or have to keep the machine close to the source. Well, IOGEAR not only gives you a great alternative, they also have a great sound solution as well.

Jeffrey Powers talks with Bill about the wireless video and sound solution. There is a lot of great application to this. Afterwards we talked and it was suggested that you could have a presentation in more than one room without having cables around doors. Anyone with a visual impairment could have another monitor or wireless headphones set at their seat to see and hear whatever is being shown.

Because my CD Drive was acting up, I had to replace it. Since I have benefitted from Jeffrey’s videos about the insides of computers, I figured that turning this task into a post might help someone else out. Persons who’ve never looked inside a computer tend to think that they are much more mysterious than they actually are.

In the olden days, before I started messing with computers, replacing a component could mean a long struggle with soldering irons, needle nose pliers, and wiring diagrams. Now everything in desktop computers is standardized. (With laptops, a lot of the individual components are standardized, but the arrangement of components and many of the carriers and connections are not.)

The procedure below the fold will apply to changing any drive, not just CD drives.

Charter has announced that it will be filing for bankruptcy by April 1. Story here.

It caught my eye because they are the cable provider where I grew up. There’s precious little detail, other than a quote of an optimistic statement from the company saying that it was certain it would survive reorganization after restructuring.

HDMI cables are pretty cool. 1 small cable for high definition content makes it easier to have less of a mess behind a TV. However, these little cables can get pulled and possibly get knocked out.

That is where PPC comes in. Andy McCaskey talks with Andy White (Notice how Andy always talks with guys named Andy…) about the cables that lock into place. The best part about this cable is you can use it with your current HDMI connection.

As you know, my media has been down for a while. I have kept Quickcasts relavant, but the first 52 Podcasts have been taken down until the hunt for a new media server has been found. It was a hard decision, but it had to be done.

Well I am happy to announce I have all the media loaded up to the new server and am ready to reactivate it. I am taking this 1 step at at time because when I do it, the other podcasts might get affected. Therefore, I will be making plans tomorrow and hopefully by Monday this issue will be in the past.

Because of the Media move, I have registered a new Domain: JMPEnterprise.com. It’s my parent website. You will mostly be going to that site to get media and to inquire about my services.

Comcast has been riddled in the news lately. Bandwidth caps, overage fees all for simply surfing the internet. However they simultaneously opened Fancast – a Video Download site which won’t go against that cap. They also have Comcast.net, Disney Connection and Rhapsody Player Plus – All within their community.

There was another company that tried to keep their members contained within their virtual fence. That company was AOL.  However, AOL has been opening up for all to use. Still, I have to ask the question: Is Comcast becoming the next AOL?
