2004 – It was an interesting day in the Tech community when we heard the news. IBM was getting out of the desktop and laptop markets and focus on server and infrastructure. They started by selling all their assets to Lenovo – China’s largest computer manufacturer. Lenovo wasn’t a household name in the US, but this pretty much changed that overnight.
The deal was for $650 in cash and $600 million in stock. Lenovo would also acquire $500 million in IBM liabilities, which would put the total to $1.75 Billion. In return, Lenovo would instantly become the 3rd largest PC vendor with $12 Billion in revenue, not to mention major markets in both China and the U.S.

Fakes. Throughout time we’ve had to deal with those who want to pass something off as an original. Sometimes we are not fooled. Other times we go years thinking that it’s the real thing until some new technology tells us different.
In the last week I’ve seen many fake photos of different items – most notably the Large GPS picture and Windows 7 screenshots. There is even a video out there that supposedly displays Windows 7 functionality. While impressive, it makes me wonder if someone is trying to pass these off to make a quick buck?

Veterans Day. The day where we remember the men and women who have fought for us and subsequently died for our freedom. From the Civil War to today, Americans have given their life for their country. We remember that, and we honor that.
Technology and War are two things that go hand in hand. The newest advances will give the advantage swiftly and sometimes without prejudice. Whether it was the first Bomber Planes in WW1, the first use of mobile communications or the nuclear assault on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. Each advantage turns War into a new game. Whoever is on top of their technology game can turn a battle to their advantage.
Remember the movie “Small Soldiers” (1998)? Action figures with a smart chip embedded in their systems start battling each other once activated. Today we have Robots that do things like disarm bombs and unmanned vehicles that can do recon or a host of other dangerous activities. Unfortunately for a large price at times.
