If you are downstairs and want to turn on or off the TV upstairs, you don’t have to run around the house to flip switches. With the Tenrete Smart Plug from PicoWatt, you just have to connect to a web browser and turn off the TV without moving around. If you are away from your house, you can connect in and turn on lights to thwart burglars or adjust power to save money while on vacation.
In this Video, Todd Cochrane talks with Carlos about how these WiFi controlled devices can turn on and off appliances. This device won a CNET Best of CES award.

Well, the election is over and now it’s time to put the cabinet together. Need some nails, glue and instructions… Aw heck! Who am I kidding. We don’t need no stinkin instructions.
CNet reported that the new cabinet is without a Chief Technology Officer. The CTO is a pretty important position and the IT guy that takes that role will have to be on top of their game. The CTO will have not only other IT people on their case but those IT people most likely will blog about it. Talk about cut-throat.
This week on Bitstrips, we sit down with President-Elect Barack Obama and ask him about his hunt for the CTO.

A lot of tech companies traded like a high stakes poker game. Of course this is not unusal for companies to buy other companies – It is interesting to see who bought what. It makes for the big question: Will the new parent company keep their new child or will we see it in a dumpster next week?
Let’s start with the big one: HP buys EDS. On Tuesday, HP laid down 12.6 Billion to purchase Electronic Data Systems. This is a move to catapult HP into a position to compete with IBM’s markets.
Created in 1962 by Ross Perot – the Billionaire that ran for President in 1992 (and took about 18.9 percent of the vote). Ross Started EDS after departing from IBM. His first big contract was in computerizing Medicare Records from the Government. In 1968 EDS went public and shares went from $16 to $160.
With Dell cutting 8800 jobs, and other companies like CNet and ebay laying off workers, are we seeing a trend of less IT jobs?

Don’t you think? Cnet yesterday laid off 4.5% of their workforce – 120 jobs in the news department (US) were “Streamlined”. The difficult decision was made so the company could get back on track.
What is Ironic about it? Well, if you search online, you will notice one major source missing. In fact, I went to their website and search specifically on the subject and found nothing.
Cnet news isn’t reporting of the layoff.
