1999 – It was the most expensive internet domain name. Business.com was first bought in 1997 for $150,000 by Marc Ostrofsky. You might think that is pretty expensive, but economically, it was a great deal. On 12/01/99, Buisness.com was sold to Jake Winebaum for $7.5 million. At that point, buisness.com was officially founded.Jake was a chairman of the Walt Disney Internet group.
This domain barely made it through the dot com bubble. They went through 2007 when R.H. Donnelley Corporation acquired the site for $345 million. R.H. Donnelley filed for bankruptcy in June 2009.

1996 – Famous hacker Kevin Mitnick is indicted on 25 charges for a 2 and a half year hacking spree. Police believed Mitnick had stolen Millions of dollars in software from different corporations. Mitnick faced up to 200 years in prison if found guilty. He was first arrested on February 15th, 1995. He was sentenced to 46 months and an additional 22 months for violating the terms of his 1989 supervised release. He was released to supervised release on January 21, 2000 and finally released on January 21, 2003.

You might remember the famous 1984 Apple Mac commercial, but do remember the commercial the year after? Lemmings. Apple became the biggest one with their 1985 commercial. It made people upset seeing the commercial of blindfolded businessmen walking off a cliff. As the 1984 ad was yeilded as the best, the 1985 ad was yeilded one of the worst for Apple.

A couple cool Disney facts this week. Disney World opens in Oct 1st, 1971 – Then in 1982, EPCOT Center was opened.

Comcast has been riddled in the news lately. Bandwidth caps, overage fees all for simply surfing the internet. However they simultaneously opened Fancast – a Video Download site which won’t go against that cap. They also have Comcast.net, Disney Connection and Rhapsody Player Plus – All within their community.
There was another company that tried to keep their members contained within their virtual fence. That company was AOL. However, AOL has been opening up for all to use. Still, I have to ask the question: Is Comcast becoming the next AOL?

Veterans Day. The day where we remember the men and women who have fought for us and subsequently died for our freedom. From the Civil War to today, Americans have given their life for their country. We remember that, and we honor that.
Technology and War are two things that go hand in hand. The newest advances will give the advantage swiftly and sometimes without prejudice. Whether it was the first Bomber Planes in WW1, the first use of mobile communications or the nuclear assault on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. Each advantage turns War into a new game. Whoever is on top of their technology game can turn a battle to their advantage.
Remember the movie “Small Soldiers” (1998)? Action figures with a smart chip embedded in their systems start battling each other once activated. Today we have Robots that do things like disarm bombs and unmanned vehicles that can do recon or a host of other dangerous activities. Unfortunately for a large price at times.
