Editors Note: I would love to point to the website right now of ThinkOptics and the Wavit, but for the last few days it’s been reporting a trojan on the site. Therefore, no links will be given at this time.

When I scanned through North Hall, I found a lot of cool new products out there. This one was the most impressive. Not only could it turn your iPod or iPhone into a presentation remote, it could also turn it into a fully functional remote control.

The device is called WavIT from ThinkOptics. They have made presentation devices before, but this one you can plug your Apple device in and use it as a presentation device. Use the pointer, draw on the screen or flip through a Powerpoint.

But the more impressive item was it could turn into a fully functional universal remote control. You can download profiles for most remotes for your TV, Stereo, DVD, DVR or other device through their website. Don’t see the remote on there? That’s O.K. You can also make your own remote by taking a picture and setting hotspots.

Jeffrey Powers talks with Anders about this great product. It can control a Mac, PC, PS3, XBox or Linux box by plugging in the USB cord. No software is installed. There is even a Voice control for Window 7 – All for $80. Not a bad pricepoint.

Web Conferencing systems come in many flavors. If you need a more professional solution, then ZipDX. More features really show that this program might be a great solution for you.

Andy McCaskey talks with David over ZipDX and their new program called “Scribe”. This is their Real Time Transcription. As they talked, the computer was transcribing the meeting. Whereas other conferencing services take a few days to get systems transcribed, ZipDX costs only $100 and you will get it back in 2 minutes.

Late 90’s – The one interesting thing about looking at tech history is you can see trends. One trend I’ve been seeing in the last few days around the late 90’s was the amount of websites getting hacked. Groups like Legions of Underground, cArPaRtS nInJa TaSk FOrc3? and L|Z gained names for themselves over busting into other websites.

Then, in 1999, chairman of the President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion: John Koskinen publicly pleads mercy with hackers to create a moratorium during the Y2K time.

Well, as Geekazine grows, we have to accommodate for it. In the last 60 days the site has seen a decent amount of traffic. However, for this smaller server, it can’t handle the load. Therefore, within the next few days, Geekazine will be moving to a new server. Something I’ve been contemplating doing, but at this point, I have no real choice anymore.

Because of this, you might see some down time from Dec 13-15th, 2009. Although the site is down, you can get to all the Podcasts – they reside on a different server. You can get them through iTunes easily.

Thanks to all who have visited Geekazine. More important – Thanks for making me move to another server. Because of that, I know the sites’ popularity is growing.

O.K. I was a little bored tonight, so I put together a song for this next week’s Blogworld – New Media Expo. It’s only a few days away and I am pumped to meet and learn (and relax a bit).

Are you going to the show? Let me know. I get there on Wednesday, so we could easily meet up for a “Pre Blogworld drink”. If someone has a guitar with them, I might just pull out the song again. This time with a little bit of practice. After all, I’m a drummer – not a Guitar playing Harmonica hasher….

But for now, here’s an unofficial Blogworld song.

If you want to sing along:

Doesn’t matter if I got no money. Doesn’t matter at all. I set me a path and now I’m heading down this road.

(cause I’m)Blogworld bound – That’s where I’m gonna be.
And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.

I started bloggin on a Sunday, When I should have been in church
Preacher came a my way, said you’re heading down the road

I loaded up my player, enough podcasts to get through
The long arduous journey that takes me down to you

The floor of the convention, is a site to see
Industry professionals all starin at me

(they were all)Blogworld bound
And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.

And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.

And baby don’t get in my way, just take my hand and come down with me.

1995 – Just a few days after the launch of Windows95, Microsoft puts out the newest version of the Office software. Technically, it’s called “Office 7.0″, but Microsoft wanted to brand it as a companion to the newest operating system. Therefore, it became “Office 95″.

The newest version included Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mail software. This new version ran in 32 bit, so Windows 95 could utilize it to the best of it’s ability.

A long time ago, while helping someone set up a component stereo system (remember them?), I remarked that modern life is living with wires.

And it still comes down to wires, whether they are made of metal or silicone.

Wednesday, I was wireless. In fact, my whole street was. A garbage truck tore down the main lines feeding the street, as well as one of the poles they were attached to. It took out the electricity, the landline, and the cable, and it emphasized how wound up with wires our lives have become.

When I went to Las Vegas in January, I thought I would be going back to cover events. I didn’t think it would be so soon. But I don’t mind – a little hop over to the city that never sleeps for a few days of fun in the sun.

Except I will have a reason for going to the big city. I will be working with Andy McCaskey and Kara Karsten again for the HP Tech Forum Expo 2009. We will be covering the floor – CES style while also setting up one – on – one interviews with various vendors.

I will also be doing wrap up videos all week for the Geekazine channel and TVazine. So I thought I would start early by showing you what it takes to get ready for an event like this.

Andy will be getting the serious CES gear from Todd Cochrane, so I will have to make sure I have the little stuff covered. We will be doing the Backchannel content like we did at CES, so I will be bringing the AIPTEK camera. I will also be Podcasting my regular show on Tuesday, which means I’ll have to take the Blue USB mic with me and other various accoutremon.

In this weeks video, I get to do two things:

  1. Show off the new studio space for future video
  2. Show you all the items I am planning to take with me to cover an event like this.

It should be a great time. I will be on a plane and in Vegas by Sunday night. So that means I have a lot of work to do before then.

Oh, wait. I have a lot of work to do… Well, here is the video.

As you know, my media has been down for a while. I have kept Quickcasts relavant, but the first 52 Podcasts have been taken down until the hunt for a new media server has been found. It was a hard decision, but it had to be done.

Well I am happy to announce I have all the media loaded up to the new server and am ready to reactivate it. I am taking this 1 step at at time because when I do it, the other podcasts might get affected. Therefore, I will be making plans tomorrow and hopefully by Monday this issue will be in the past.

Because of the Media move, I have registered a new Domain: JMPEnterprise.com. It’s my parent website. You will mostly be going to that site to get media and to inquire about my services.
