In the meantime, Microsoft was getting pressure from the European Union for it’s bundling of the browser on the operating system. Still, Internet Explorer continues on and releases IE8

1998 – After Steve Jobs takes the role of Acting CEO (After the firing of Gil Amelio) he decides to trim some of the product fat. In result, the Apple Newton – it’s attempt at a PDA – was officially discontinued after 5 years. But not all was lost off this, for the mobile applications got shifted into their other Mac OS technologies. Cyberdog and OpenDOC were two other Apple programs that were discontinued after Jobs took the helm again.

When we saw what Ford was doing at CES 2010 with the SYNC system, we were impressed. Well, it goes without saying that not only were we impressed, but the Fast Company was, too. They put Ford on the Top Ten “Most Innovative Companies” in mobile technology. Actually, it’s #5 on the list:
This is the first time an automaker has been featured on the Top 10 Mobile list. The honor goes to Ford from their work of with SYNC and the MyFord Touch driver interface. Collaborating with many different mobile device manufacturers, as well as software app developers and network providers.
One of those providers is Stitcher – a content provider of Podcasts and Internet radio over the iPhone, Android, Palm and Blackberry. All of Geekazine’s Podcasts are available on Stitcher. Other programs are Pandora, OpenBeak, Inrix, Microsoft and TeleNav, amongst other programs.
Mark Fields, Ford President for the Americas States:
This honor represents Ford’s commitment to innovation and development of technology that enhances the driving experience and adds real value to the consumer. We’re very proud of this recognition from Fast Company, and it is truly an accomplishment to be named amongst some of the leading technology innovators and mobile application developers.”
Ford has also become the first automaker that announced hands-free command and control of smart phone applications. Ford SYNC is available in all cars created today. Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo are their other brands.
This week we look at:
- Windows Phone 7 (Formerly Windows Mobile 7) and what it might mean to smartphones
- Google Buzz Sued over privacy issues. I found this one on Google Buzz.
- HBO Go shows us that at least Pay TV channels get it
- Social Networking in Microsoft Outlook – Good idea, or will the IT department just block it?
- Happy 20th birthday Adobe Photoshop!

Last week when Google Buzz came out, all the Social Mediates jumped on board like the last boat of the day starting to leave the dock. Instantly, we saw everyone posting “I am Buzzing”, and others rebuilding their Social Media lists. The big names pretty much dominated the Buzz. But it did become an opportunity for a new name or two to get in there. And – as far as I know – Ashton Kutcher is not on Buzz.. Yet.
Two big questions people had about Buzz in the first week – Is Buzz like which Social Media Micro Blogging device, and which one is Buzz going to replace? In this video, we look at Google Buzz, Friend Feed, Twitter and Facebook. Jeffrey talks about what Buzz is close to and gives answers to these two questions.
What do you think? Will Buzz replace Facebook? Friend Feed? Twitter?

Happy Presidents Day!
2005 – YouTube, the popular video sharing website, is established by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. Google bought out YouTube on October 9, 2006 for $1.65 Billion. The official launch didn’t happen until November of 2005. With an upload every 20 minutes and over 1 Billion views a day, YouTube has definitely grown to a video powerhouse.
