I have met many a Social Media Club members from around this great nation. About a year ago, I toyed with starting the Madison chapter, but we already had a great community in Web608. However, a group has officially created the Social Media Club of Madison and their first kick-off party will be on Feb 23rd.
Good Morning!
Just wanted to let everyone know that we have scheduled our first kick-off event for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23 from 5:30-7PM at Brocach Pub on the Square. We have the whole upstairs reserved with music, swag and drink specials. Event details are located here: http://madisonsmc.eventbrite.com/
I hope to see you there! Please spread the love in any way you can!!!
Best,
Janie–

This should be a great time and I encourage anybody in the area to check it out tomorrow.
A couple weeks ago I was interviewed by Rich Albertoni for the Isthmus. It was for the article: Plugged In: In music and spoken word, local culture is embracing the podcast era. The article came out today in the Isthmus – which is a tabliod style magazine that comes out weekly in the Madison area.
In it, Rich talks with a good friend of mine in Mike Huberty of Sunspot about how and why they podcast. Other casts included were:
- The Partially Examined Life
- Kim and Jason
- Higher Ground
- Mad Toast Live
- No, THIS Is What I Call Music
- Elimination of the Snakes
It was a great time talking with Rich. I wished he would have used more content from our discussion, including the name of the Monthly meeting – the Madison Podcasters Group – part of the group Web608, along with what Geekazine really does, but with word limit constraints of conventional papers, it is what it is.

Day 2 had brought upon a lot of cool stuff. We put together the booth for uStream interviews, we walked the floor of HPTF and we had a great time at the Luau.
Here is the Wrap Up Video for the HPTF 2009 Day 2. I am at awe of the 1000 videos playing right behind me. I think there is a market in turning that into a tanning booth – watch your favorite shows while getting a nice tan.
When I went to Las Vegas in January, I thought I would be going back to cover events. I didn’t think it would be so soon. But I don’t mind – a little hop over to the city that never sleeps for a few days of fun in the sun.
Except I will have a reason for going to the big city. I will be working with Andy McCaskey and Kara Karsten again for the HP Tech Forum Expo 2009. We will be covering the floor – CES style while also setting up one – on – one interviews with various vendors.
I will also be doing wrap up videos all week for the Geekazine channel and TVazine. So I thought I would start early by showing you what it takes to get ready for an event like this.
Andy will be getting the serious CES gear from Todd Cochrane, so I will have to make sure I have the little stuff covered. We will be doing the Backchannel content like we did at CES, so I will be bringing the AIPTEK camera. I will also be Podcasting my regular show on Tuesday, which means I’ll have to take the Blue USB mic with me and other various accoutremon.
In this weeks video, I get to do two things:
- Show off the new studio space for future video
- Show you all the items I am planning to take with me to cover an event like this.
It should be a great time. I will be on a plane and in Vegas by Sunday night. So that means I have a lot of work to do before then.
Oh, wait. I have a lot of work to do… Well, here is the video.
About 5 minutes back from Chicago and am I taking a nap? No. I’m back on the site. What am I, crazy?
What a great time with Andy McCaskey and Kara Karsten putting together 2-3 days worth of content. Lots of video uploaded and produced.
Also learned a lot about CMS systems. Most people there were either Drupal or Joomla shops, with a couple Plone and Alfresco speakers. Still, there was a lot of content to go around. Met some real influential CMS experts.
There was a Joomla vs. Drupal theme going, though. They even wrote songs about it. I posted them both up – not great quality, so be forewarned.

Are you planning to upgrade your Server farm to SAS (Serial attached SCSI)? Well, Logicube has the answer. Jeffrey Powers talks with Todd Bellows about the newest products like Omni SAS duplication, The 5th generation Supersonic Handheld duplicator and the Dossier – a Forensic Capture of a drive to capture all data for an authentic data copy.
There are a lot more over at their website. Ultimately the prices are high, but in the long run this can be a great time saver which means you save more money by getting your employees out or less time on a Saturday upgrading your Server farm.Save 10% on your Godaddy.com order using Promo Code ‘Pod125′

I joined back up with Todd and Andy at the Verizon booth. They just finished with HP and an independent company, then we were on the go. I did some back channel on in-win cases and the Aiptek booth (because the camera I used at CES was an Aiptek). From there, we talked with the guys at Clearwire in where we learned on what’s going on with WiMax.
The show really started to look like it was winding down as people were starting to pack up. We stopped at the Nokia booth where there were a lot of people watching the N97 demo. From there it was to OOMA, where they did an interview and I did some backchannel on the 3-D Rock Band.
Earlier this week I hosted a Podcaster meeting for this area. I wanted to get to know the Podcasters and maybe strike up a good conversation. You never know who can help who, right?
Anywho I found out about OpenEverything – a meeting of everything ‘Open’. Mostly in a technology realm, but Open can be applied to many other areas. Music, Art, Science, Ferrule….
Now I was planning to be watching the PodcastAwards today, but this was an all-day event. I figured I’d go, then slip out around 30 minutes before the awards and catch both. However, I got so enthralled with the event, I decided to stay. It was only too bad I couldn’t make it when the event started because they had the Berlin event hand it off to us via web conference.
