On November 20th. 2000, Intel introduced their newest line, and Seventh generation of Pentium core processors. Code named “Willamette”, it became the Pentium 4 processor upon launch. The first processors were in speeds of 1.4 and 1.5 GHz and a new technology called “NetBurst”, which was suppose to carry processors to 10 GHz, until they found an issue that made the processor plateau at 4 GHz.

The processor had it’s problems - transistor power leakages and cooling issues. However the processor has been used in machines up until 2008 when it retired at 3.8 GHz. Add in Hyperthreading and the system could run more efficiantly.

Other notes of the week - Windows 1.0 debuts, the first experiments of the transistor is run, the first Sunday Comics section is printed and Calvin and Hobbes debuts on November 18th 1985.

“Make Money Fast” was uttered for the first time on a Usenet in 1989. The message had the name “Dave Rhodes” attached, but it was suspected to be a pseudonym. The words “Make Money Fast” and “Scam” become synonymous.

Nov. 4trh, 1984, with only $1000 start up Capitol, Michael Dell creates Dell Computers. Dell pioneered the “Sell direct to customers” approach and a new company was born. All in 1984.

This week we have a lot of great history, including the event on Oct. 28th, 1955. William Gates III came into this world. Of course we all know him as the funny man in those Seinfeld commercials. However, he ran a little ole company we like to call “Micro.. Micro..” Wait. What is that called again?

Interestingly enough 30 years later (1985), Bill Gates put Microsoft up for IPO. Other cool history notes - the DMCA is signed, the first Ball Point Pen becomes available and OpenSocial.

WITH p1 - 10-13-08 - Ebay buys Skype and Apple II

Skype, the Online phone system, was purchased by Ebay for $2.6 billion. Also, we saw the Apple II line get discontinued for the newer versions of Apple products. Microsoft, The wave and the Maytag Galaxy is included in this part of Week In Tech History.

WITH p2 - 101008 - Tom Cruise and Pac Man Fever

Firstly, we are changing the name of the show to Week in Tech History, or WITH.On the Weekend edition of WITH, we got two interesting events. First of all, it’s Pac Man Fever and It’s driving me crazy! 1979, Pac Man was introduced in Japan and in 1980 was introduced in the US. Of course, Pac Man was created by Namco, has over 30 spinoff games and even has a board game version.

There are a lot of other cool items in the weekend edition like IBM releases, XP SP1 and it’s officially Tom Cruise day.
