Choetech 5 Port USB Surge Protector, Griffin Reversible Lightning Cable

Today, I take a look at two USB products in the Choetech Surge protected 5-USB port charger, and the Griffin reversible USB to Lightning connector. Both are great products to have for your USB or iOS needs. Griffin Reversible USB to Lightning Cable Don’t you hate it when you can’t plug the USB cable in, so you think it’s backwards and flip it around only to find out the first way was right? Back in January, Griffin showed their solution to this problem in the reversible USB cable.  Now, the cable is out and ready for use. I checked out the 5 foot cable – a braided nylon cable with a more protective jacket at the plug ends. I put it in a high-traffic room to see how it would fair. Whereas my standard iPad/iPhone cable looked very dirty and sticky after a few days in this area,...

Saloote is the Best Way to Collaborate with Others Through Your IOS Device

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSSometimes musicians just want to jam with others. It gets difficult because there might not be others around. But Saloote might be able to help as it uses your iPhone to record and mash up videos to create your virtual band. Saloote is an app that allows you to sing or play an instrument with your favorite song. You could be all about that Bass, Happy, or just want to stay together. You record your track and look for other instrumentalists to help give you that one-of-a-kind sound. If you find someone better, simply replace them in the mash-up. Create videos and share them with friends. You might even be able to practice with some musicians in another town to see if they could actually play out when you get there. Dylan even mentioned a collaboration version, which will be in a...

iPhone 6 Rumors Dissected – Why is it Called iPhone 6 Anyway?

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSSeptember 9th, 2014. That is the date of the upcoming iPhone event. The quintessential reset to the world of smartphone technology. But what are we going to see? Will a watch be part of it? “I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” That came from the man who helped bring the iPhone into our world, Steve Jobs. It wasn’t the first Smartphone – they have been around before any iPhone ever came out. Nonetheless, it was the iPhone that made the smartphone. With Jobs vision, the first device was both mesmerizing and confusing. Fast forward to...

Review: Sony Xperia Z2 with Verizon 4G vs. iPad Air

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSS“So slim and light, you forgetting your holding it” touts Sony in this newest tablet in the market. The Sony Xperia Z2 is a LTE-based Android tablet using Sony’s Trilumios technology. What is Triluminos? Its an approach to LED lighting that is different from most screens. Sony uses an uncoated LED inside a thin tube. The tube has what are called “Quantum Dots” of Red and Green. When electricity goes through the tubes, the wavelengths will determine the color. Blue is always the constant – emited via the main LED. The end result is a more vibrant experience. How vibrant? Well, lets put it side by side with the iPad Air to see the difference. Now we got that out of the way lets look at what Sony packs in their tablet. The Sony Xperia has a display area of 10.1 inches....

Day 1 of NAB 2014 – Cases, Lights and Streaming Boxes

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSDay 1 of the NAB show expo was informative and eye-opening. As a video podcaster, I checked out a lot of great items and new ways to create content. My first travels went to the North hall which saw a lot of broadcast specific items. These were hardware and software solutions which would cost broadcasters $10,ooo or more. While these are not things a normal podcaster would invest in, I still got to understand how things like closed captioning, satellite feeds, multi-studio broadcasting, and more worked. Central hall brought products I could sink my teeth into. I started with a company that produces camera teleprompters. This is something I see more home creators get into. You can set up an iPad with software, then place it in this device to read during your show. Control the speed with an app or wired...

Absolute Lo-Jack Challenge 2

Absolute LoJack Challenge & My Stolen iPhone Story

NOTE: This is a post brought to you by Absolute LoJack. The Contest part is over. All opinions on software are those of Geekazine. Last week I announced a contest and talked about going #DigitallyDark for the Absolute LoJack Challenge. I have actually had this happen to me, which is a far better story than any “recreation” I could make. That is when I started thinking about better protecting my devices, especially since  I need them to do my job. Remember: A Laptop is stolen every 50 seconds. That laptop could have your vacation or kids photos, tax or other business documents, or even a list of all your passcodes for home and work. Worse yet, Consumer Reports states that 1.6 million smart phones were stolen. 100 devices stolen in 60 seconds! Some of them were NOT from cherry pickers (those who grab phones sitting on a table or bar). Some...
