Day 1 of NAB 2014 – Cases, Lights and Streaming Boxes

Day 1 of the NAB show expo was informative and eye-opening. As a video podcaster, I checked out a lot of great items and new ways to create content. My first travels went to the North hall which saw a lot of broadcast specific items. These were hardware and software solutions which would cost broadcasters $10,ooo or more. While these are not things a normal podcaster would invest in, I still got to understand how things like closed captioning, satellite feeds, multi-studio broadcasting, and more worked. Central hall brought products I could sink my teeth into. I started with a...

Absolute LoJack Challenge & My Stolen iPhone Story

NOTE: This is a post brought to you by Absolute LoJack. The Contest part is over. All opinions on software are those of Geekazine. Last week I announced a contest and talked about going #DigitallyDark for the Absolute LoJack Challenge. I have actually had this happen to me, which is a far better story than any “recreation” I could make. That is when I started thinking about better protecting my devices, especially since  I need them to do my job. Remember: A Laptop is stolen every 50 seconds. That laptop could have your vacation or kids photos, tax or other business documents, or...

Is an Amazon Drone Even Possible?

Today’s the day I get my Google Nexus 5. I also got the new iPad Air from Black Friday, which I went over on iPad365. Had some small audio issues with This Week in Google Glass, but otherwise the show went really well — talking about the Seattle restaurant that banned glass. Our TPN crowdfund is still happening and really needs your help — get a T-shirt! Bought a FreedomPop Mifi puck last night on Cyber Monday deal. You can find out more and help me get free usage. Hey! A New iPad Air! Apple Event Brings Mavericks, Mac Pro

I got my 5th pair of Google Glass last week, but they didn’t come from San Francisco. I talk about it all on TWIGG as Luke shows off the Texas state fair. Got a Fitbug Orb in the mail, so I’ll be testing out my health for the next couple weeks. Crowdfund has taken a lot of free time – iPad365 has been on hiatus until now (because I probably should talk about the new iPad, right?) I’ll be speaking next week on Google Glass, so the show may be a day late. Hotline – 608-205-4378 – geekazine (at) gmail.com Download...

Today’s item I have for review is the Monoprice 615808 8-Channel mixer. This is a sub-$100 mixer that is perfect for 2-4 vocals, or 2-3 musicians. About the Monoprice 615808 Mixer This mixer has 4-XLR inputs, 4-line in inputs and 4 auxiliary inputs. You can also plug in a CD or RCA stereo jack and send out via the 2 track mains or RCA jacks. The mixer also has a USB port (playback only) and aux send if you choose to add effects or compression to your mixer. The first 4 channels of the 615808 contain an overall gain, two...

Apple TV vs. Roku vs. Chromecast – It’s a Throwdown!

A few weeks ago, Google came out with their newest streaming media device in Chromecast. An HDMI dongle that plugs into the back of your TV to watch applications such as Netflix, YouTube and more. In the meantime, the Parks Associates just released a report stating Roku has 37% share to Apple TVs 24% in the market. So which one do you want to get? Today, I am going to show you these three set top boxes along with their advantages and disadvantages. Then you can make an informed decision to purchase the set top box of your choice. Stolen iPhone, Broken Glass – SIM Card is Vulnerable

Last week was one of the worst weeks I had in current history. Monday, someone broke into my car and stole my iPhone. Over the previous weekend my Google Glass stopped working. My Desktop also broke down (thankfully only a reload issue) and I even had a Notebook explode in my lap! I did have some fun last week as we went up north and relaxed on the boat for the day. Here’s to future weeks being less stressful. Thanks to Jennifer who made my crawling work a lot easier. Hotline – 608-205-4378 – geekazine (at) gmail.com Download the audio...

Online Sales Tax – How, Why and Will it Work?

Started a new healthy campaign for the month of May. 10,000 steps a day for the month. So far, so good. Today, I’ll be doing it after the podcast so we’ll see how that goes. Back from SXSW and I have a lot of video to put together. WWE’s John Cena, Google Shoes – SXSW 2013

I attended a couple sessions today, one being how the WWE is crushing social media. Did you know the WWE trends more than most other sports? Did you know that WWE’s John Cena has more Twitter followers than Kim Kardashian? The panel included Cena, Stephanie McMahon (EVP,Creative Developer), Perkins Miller (EVP of Digital Media) and hosted by Khris Loux of Echo. They talked some impressive numbers on how WWE is not only taking social media to new levels but also creating ways for fans to be fully interactive. Turning to the internet and iPad app when the show is on...
