1986 -$21.00 a share was the first price for stock in Microsoft. 2.5 million shares were sold, raising the price to 27.75 and netting the company 61 million initially. Since then, the highest it has gone was 57.91 on Dec 24th, 1999. Yet with about 10 stock splits and several dividends in the 24 years, people definitely got their money’s worth. If you would have purchased 100 shares in 1986 and let those shares ride until today, you would have 102,400 shares of stock at appx. $29 a share.

April 28th 2003. With 200,000 songs and a eye on the music market, Apple launched the iTunes Store. At that time, the Windows version was not out yet (had to wait until October 17th of that year), but the first week alone they had over a million sales.
Other items of note – the first computer mouse and the first Windows mouse. We also saw the Sasser Worm come up and Google’s IPO.

According to Bloomberg and several other sources, EBay is planning to spin off Skype with an IPO. Read the story here.
Apparently, Skype has never quite fit in with EBay. Here’s an excerpt:
“The only problem with Skype is it’s part of EBay,” said Jeff Lindsay, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. in New York. “It’s a marriage made in hell. They will make more money from spinning it out than they ever could by keeping it.”
This week we have a lot of great history, including the event on Oct. 28th, 1955. William Gates III came into this world. Of course we all know him as the funny man in those Seinfeld commercials. However, he ran a little ole company we like to call “Micro.. Micro..” Wait. What is that called again?
Interestingly enough 30 years later (1985), Bill Gates put Microsoft up for IPO. Other cool history notes – the DMCA is signed, the first Ball Point Pen becomes available and OpenSocial.
