Do you need a speaker system that is driven by Bluetooth or WiFi? Do you want a designer speaker for the living room? The Parrot Zikmu by Philippe Starck might be for you.

Todd Cochrane stopped by and put the mic up to the speaker to show off this interesting product. It stands about 2 1/2 feet high and weighs 17 lbs. It’s fully compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch – Nano and Classic. It also has a RCA line-in input for audio analog sources and plays all MP3 and LPCM audio formats. The frequency ranges from 50 Hz – 20 kHz and takes 70W per speaker.

But for this product, you might want to get out your mortgage. $1599 is the suggested retail price. Of course, they are developed by Phillippe Starck – a designer in the New Design style. He recently redesigned the Microsoft optical mouse and was commissioned to design the Spaceport for Virgin Galactic.

When I went to Las Vegas in January, I thought I would be going back to cover events. I didn’t think it would be so soon. But I don’t mind – a little hop over to the city that never sleeps for a few days of fun in the sun.

Except I will have a reason for going to the big city. I will be working with Andy McCaskey and Kara Karsten again for the HP Tech Forum Expo 2009. We will be covering the floor – CES style while also setting up one – on – one interviews with various vendors.

I will also be doing wrap up videos all week for the Geekazine channel and TVazine. So I thought I would start early by showing you what it takes to get ready for an event like this.

Andy will be getting the serious CES gear from Todd Cochrane, so I will have to make sure I have the little stuff covered. We will be doing the Backchannel content like we did at CES, so I will be bringing the AIPTEK camera. I will also be Podcasting my regular show on Tuesday, which means I’ll have to take the Blue USB mic with me and other various accoutremon.

In this weeks video, I get to do two things:

  1. Show off the new studio space for future video
  2. Show you all the items I am planning to take with me to cover an event like this.

It should be a great time. I will be on a plane and in Vegas by Sunday night. So that means I have a lot of work to do before then.

Oh, wait. I have a lot of work to do… Well, here is the video.

Blue Mic

Blue Mic

This week we review the Blue Snowball Microphone. It is a powerful USB microphone from Blue that offers a functional mic over USB in a good price range.

Blue offers many different microphones for commercial and professional use. If you’ve watched Todd Cochrane and the Geek News Central Podcast from uStream, you will have seen their mics. They have been used by Podcasters all the way to reporting from the Newsroom on a few Network news shows.

If the Snowball is too big, you can also check out the Snowflake: a travel USB mic – or the Eyeball: with a built in Webcam.

I started a new group a couple months ago to not only get new podcasters interested, but also have existing podcasters get together and talk about different aspects. I decided that if it’s a meeting about Podcasting, it should be a podcast itself. Therefore, we recorded the first Madison Podcasters Group Podcast.

I decided that since this isn’t really a centric item and there is a lot of good information, then it will be added to the Quickcast. It will also have it’s own group, too.

The subject of the first podcast group – how easy it is to set up and make a podcast. We talk in general about setting up a mic to a computer and recording it, how much it’s going to cost you and how difficult it really is to set up a podcast.

There is some great information out of this hour. The sound is a bit ‘hummy’, I have tried to work out the noise. It is chuck full of some great material, so please bear through the hum and check out the show.

Next month’s meeting will be: How to host your podcast. 3-03-09

Wow, What a day. After 3 days of Grunting the floor, it really catches up to you. I feel good, but at the same time I am completely exhausted. I’m sitting at CNTR STG here which is a Blogger’s port put on by HP. Since the bandwidth at the Monte Carlo is horrible, we have to do our uploads here. I suppose it’s good because this is the place where I’ve met my fellow bloggers.

I did something a little different with the Back Channel as I used the X-shot to put the camera about 3 feet in the air. The result wasn’t too bad. I’ll try to get the video up ASAP, but I am still 2 days behind on that.

*Have to apologize, I think I was a little too close to the mic and some distortion occured during the show. I listened through and sounds decent so I decided to publish. Let me know if unlistenable and I’ll re-do.
