1986 -$21.00 a share was the first price for stock in Microsoft. 2.5 million shares were sold, raising the price to 27.75 and netting the company 61 million initially. Since then, the highest it has gone was 57.91 on Dec 24th, 1999. Yet with about 10 stock splits and several dividends in the 24 years, people definitely got their money’s worth. If you would have purchased 100 shares in 1986 and let those shares ride until today, you would have 102,400 shares of stock at appx. $29 a share.

While we were working at CES, Todd Cochrane found a way to get a little break and relax a bit.
The Inada chair – when not reclined – kinda looks like a captains chair from Star Trek. But when reclined, you get a full body massage. The chair uses propriatary technologies to really give you a Shiatsu style massage.
Todd talks with Monica on these great massage chairs. The price is $6499, but compared to other chairs, you get more for your money. It will work on 1,200 square inches of the body. The chair uses air and rollers, although Todd notes you cannot really feel those rollers.

If only John Cusak had this product in the movie Say Anything. It might even be the replacement vest for the TechPodcasts Crew next year. It’s a portable music player, it’s a backpack and it’s a fully functional vest for your media.
Jeffrey Powers talks with Jenny about this great product in the Sound Walk by Sonicwalk. If you are a Powerwalker, Snowboarder, Skate boarder or whatever, the user will be able to listen to tunes without having the MP3 player or iPhone fall out. The 2 Watt speakers are waterproof and the battery is rechargable and runs 15-20 hours. If you get the additional backpack, you will get additional pockets for ID and money, and also a spot for hydration pouches.
The prices will be reasonable: $105 for the vest, or $145 with the backpack. Hands free media for your adventure.

If you are downstairs and want to turn on or off the TV upstairs, you don’t have to run around the house to flip switches. With the Tenrete Smart Plug from PicoWatt, you just have to connect to a web browser and turn off the TV without moving around. If you are away from your house, you can connect in and turn on lights to thwart burglars or adjust power to save money while on vacation.
In this Video, Todd Cochrane talks with Carlos about how these WiFi controlled devices can turn on and off appliances. This device won a CNET Best of CES award.

Sharp has always been an innovator in display technology. Clearer images and brighter colors. The Aquos has been a leader in display technology for a while.
Sharp has decided to take this one step further. What they called Quad color pixel, they now mix the standard red — blue — green with a fourth color: yellow. These four colors bring out a lot more of the picture.
Because of the fourth color, the screen is naturally brighter. This also helps in saving energy — the brighter screen takes less electricity to run. Therefore saving you valuable money by just watching TV.
Jeffrey powers talks with Bruce over this great new technology. Bruce shows Jeffrey up close how the four color pixels really work. By looking through a microscope we see the four color pixel in action. This is a demonstration you will be able to do at your local retailer very soon.

2004 – Mozilla launches the web browser that would finally give Internet Explorer a run for it’s money. The Firefox 1.0 web browser was created by Mozilla, who broke free from the Netscape Navigator browser to develop in Open Source. The Gecko layout engine browser would be available for Windows, Mac and Linux – with it being the standard browser in current flavors of Ubuntu. Last year on it’s 3.5 release, it set a new worlds record download. Firefox currently takes 1/5 of the market browser share.

O.K. I was a little bored tonight, so I put together a song for this next week’s Blogworld – New Media Expo. It’s only a few days away and I am pumped to meet and learn (and relax a bit).
Are you going to the show? Let me know. I get there on Wednesday, so we could easily meet up for a “Pre Blogworld drink”. If someone has a guitar with them, I might just pull out the song again. This time with a little bit of practice. After all, I’m a drummer – not a Guitar playing Harmonica hasher….
But for now, here’s an unofficial Blogworld song.
If you want to sing along:
Doesn’t matter if I got no money. Doesn’t matter at all. I set me a path and now I’m heading down this road.
(cause I’m)Blogworld bound – That’s where I’m gonna be.
And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.I started bloggin on a Sunday, When I should have been in church
Preacher came a my way, said you’re heading down the roadI loaded up my player, enough podcasts to get through
The long arduous journey that takes me down to youThe floor of the convention, is a site to see
Industry professionals all starin at me(they were all)Blogworld bound
And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.And baby if you get in my way, I’ll take away your admin access you see.
And baby don’t get in my way, just take my hand and come down with me.
1997 – Gil Amelio just was removed as CEO. People were calling for Steve Jobs to return, but others thought that would be a bad investment. Michael Dell was asked what he would do, he came back in saying Apple should close the doors and give the money back. Had Apple done that, we might see a completely different market out there. Then again, we might just see the OS X as the NeXT OS on a regular PC.

You might remember the products. You might remember the hype. Then, you are tooling down highway 41 years later and all of a sudden you think to yourself – “Hey, whatever happened to…”
Failed ideas. Maybe it was a great idea, but wasn’t made right, or design errors brought it down. Maybe it was just a bad product. Well, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and see if we cannot repeat these errors again.
Oh yeah, why 16? Well because we could.
The Computer Watch: Whether it was the Ruputer, the MSN Direct ‘Smart’ Watches, the Timex Data Link Watch or another gadget watch – BTW – I remember having a “Transformers watch”. It was awesome!
Still, the Dick Tracey style communication watches, the “Computer on a wrist”, never really hit it off. I even remember a watch that gave you directions. You would put in the paper tape and turn a little dial to indicate where you are and where you are going.
