The folks at Motorola show us the HS1001 – a cordless that is also a web browser. That way you don’t have to pull out your laptop and find out who is starring in your new favorite movie.  Andy McCaskey talks with Motorola to find out more about DECT and the HS1001.

2008 -Sarah Palin succumbed to a hacker in a different way – through her Yahoo email. The infiltrator gained access by using common information to reset the password. David Kernell then posted her email and new password on 4chan.org under the alias “Rubico”.

It showed that by using common information to set up an account, it could also turn into a “back door” for someone who would know that information.

Oh yeah, why 16? Well because we could.

The Computer Watch: Whether it was the Ruputer, the MSN Direct ‘Smart’ Watches, the Timex Data Link Watch or another gadget watch – BTW – I remember having a “Transformers watch”. It was awesome!

Still, the Dick Tracey style communication watches, the “Computer on a wrist”, never really hit it off. I even remember a watch that gave you directions. You would put in the paper tape and turn a little dial to indicate where you are and where you are going.transformers-watch

The Amiga has been sort of an enigma in the computer industry. It started in 1982 as the Amiga corporation, then Commodore purchased the line to put in their family of computers. The computer was held high for video production – with a video toaster, the system could do as much as a mac or PC, but for less price.

Commodore of course folded up, but the Amiga line still tried to thrive. On March 27th 1997, Gateway 2000 decided to take over the reigns and be the home to this great machine. We have since seen Gateway come and go.

Other historical notes for this week – the EU lands a fine on Microsoft, Microsoft splits into 5 while Motorola splits into 2. Seagate gets bought by Veritas and Kevin Mitnik pleads guilty to wire fraud. Finally we see Excel 4.0 introduced, as well as Mac OS X.
