This week we review the Blue Snowball Microphone. It is a powerful USB microphone from Blue that offers a functional mic over USB in a good price range.
Blue offers many different microphones for commercial and professional use. If you’ve watched Todd Cochrane and the Geek News Central Podcast from uStream, you will have seen their mics. They have been used by Podcasters all the way to reporting from the Newsroom on a few Network news shows.
If the Snowball is too big, you can also check out the Snowflake: a travel USB mic – or the Eyeball: with a built in Webcam.

I can see it now – Grampa sits jr on his knee and tells a story of how he was the third partner in the Apple franchise. He then proceeds to tell his sons’ son that he decided it was too risky and pulls out of the company 11 days after it was founded. At the time he was concerned over Jobs and Wozniaks’ work ethic and felt the company would not last – let alone make any money. Guess he should’ve listened to Forrest Gump.
By the way, that person’s name is Ronald Wayne.
In other Tech History, we see the Microsoft – Yahoo bid war heat up as not only Yahoo works deals with Google, but also tries to merge the internet operations with AOL. In the meantime, Microsoft talks with NewsCorp to do a “Joint acquisition”. That, the first SPAM, the DNA database and a whole lot more on todays Quickcast

I just bought my first case of 16 oz bottles of Mountain Dew. All I can think about is “10 minutes fueling Geekazine, forever in a landfill”. I need to figure out something to do with these bottles so they don’t end up there.
My mom used to take the 2 liter bottles, cut them up and turn them into wind spinners. She had a template that she cut from, used a soldering iron to make a more precise cut and then decorated it to put out in the yard. Not that our house was filled with those things – but it definitely was a crafty project that she liked to do.
My Dad, on the other hand was into wood crafts. He used to make cribbage boards. It all started when he saw a semi-truck cribbage board. He said “I can do that” – And he did. He then moved to other items. This one is a lighthouse he made a few years ago using an old AOL CD.

To prove that you don’t need a powerful computer to podcast, I brought along my old Gateway Solo. It’s a PIII, 550 mHz laptop. The others were amazed of the older technology. Therefore, they decided to pull out their computers and compare size. An Apple enthusiast and a EeePC Netbook owner – Tom from YourDaily. We put all three together to compare.
The one picture includes the Blue Snowball Microphone. It was the monthly Podcast Meeting.
