Near where I used to work, there was a truck stop that threw a great breakfast. One day when I was driving in, not from home, but from a summer camp where my now-ex-wife was working as camp nurse, I was running early so I swung in for a real breakfast.
That’s when I realized how times were changing in the trucking industry. Fully half the truckers had their laptops fired up downloading or uploading manifests.
The New York Times reports that it has now reached the point that many truck tractors, in addition to being fitted with GPS’s (old news) are also fitted with miniature computer screens and keyboards for communicating with headquarters. And truckers, just like the rest of us, carry cellphones.
And the trucking companies fear that laws against cellphone use and text messaging while driving will cut into their style. They are trying to get themselves exempted from anti-text message/cellphone use regulations. Pulling off the road to text message or phone can add 15 minutes to a trip.

Dumbness is the cause of too much texting.
It never fails. When something new comes along and catches the attention of the Younger Generation ™, armchair shrinks appear with papers and telly vision interviews (before that, it was Marconi’s Magic Box; before that, Chatauquas; before that, drums) claiming that “It (whatever it is) is ruining our youth. Gasp. Horrors. (Book contract?)”

Reuters reports:
The company is preparing to offer commercial accounts in which corporations and other types of businesses pay a fee to receive an enhanced version of Twitter, a free service that allows people to send short, 140-character text messages to their network of friends.

There were hints that this might be on the way in this radio interview two weeks ago.

This issue is really not a new one. Ever since the birth of a portable stereo headphone radio, there has been concern about them not being able to hear the oncoming car. But now it’s getting worse and more accidents are being caused because of “Podestrians” – those listening to their favorite song or show over a type of MP3 player.
Swinton Insurance, an insurance company out of the UK just released new statistics that say more accidents are being caused by those who are not paying attention to the surroundings because they are encompassed in music, podcasts or other audio and/or video content. The average person relies on all 5 senses to go through the day. Remove one of those senses and you’re equilibrium can be off balance. Heighten one sense and the others will miss the obvious – like a car speeding at you without possibility of stopping.
Web browsers are just as debated as Operating Systems and Political affiliations. The Web Browser is the program that allows you to browse the web, so you want the best experience possible. And Just like Operating Systems you can also choose the web browser that you use. So which one is it? IE or Firefox. Maybe Safari? Maybe even Opera?

I am reminded of the old Godzilla movies when I hear “Android”. But in all reality, this is not much different. We just don’t see a cardboard city get demolished by 3 guys dressed in costumes.
Google has given themselves not only a humungous undertaking in aquiring Android, but also a new buzzword that has been passed back and forth many times in the last few weeks. Since it’s silent aquisition back in August, the news has been anything but ‘quiet’. Companies getting on the bandwagon, putting in the hours to make this thing a success. But the real question is – Is this something that the massess want, or will this become another piece of diregarded technology.
It’s safe to say that everyone wants a phone that can do more than take phone calls. Text messaging has become more viable way of communicating. According to www.cellsigns.com, 79% of the US owns a mobile phone, and by Dec of 2006, they averaged over 18 billion text messages a month. That has been steadily growing month by month, so it may be safe to say this number is a lot bigger now. By 2010, they predict over 100 Million people will be text messaging.
