Cool Things You Should Have During a Power Outage

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | RSSso your summer is going well, but that big storm hits and you lose power in the house. Sometimes it’s for an hour. Other times it could go all night. But fear not, because there are some simple things you can do to get through a hot, sweltering night and still have some creature comforts of home! Most items can be found at the store: http://geekazine.com/stormready USB chargers I get a lot of these at conventions – seems to be the new swag. The idea is to use these things to charge your phone when it’s down to 10%. Some can get you back to 50%, some can fully charge your phone 2-3 times. I have used many chargers. One in particular is the MyCharge Razor. 6000 mAh will allow you to keep a phone charged, and also turn it into a power source....

The Roku Goes Local: Channel 3000 on OTT

Channel3000.com launched their new Roku Channel on Thursday. This is the first local news station on a Set Top Box. You can catch the local news, weather, sports and original programming of Channel 3 in Madison, WI. Being a Madisonian, I am really proud of this achievement. This local CBS affiliate has been thinking outside the box for a while. Planning for the next generation of television. When most stations were launching their call letters for domains, WISC-TV chose to think bigger. Channel3000.com was a Madison portal, but also a portal for Wisconsin. They were also the first TV station in Wisconsin to go HD. With original programming like Sidelines (sport talk), Urban Theater (local music) and Madison Magazine, they have been the most innovative channel in Wisconsin. With another great leap into Over the Top Television in the Roku channel, Channel 3000 is continuing the trek into...

DigGoogle – What Google Can Gain if They Buy Digg

Subscribe: iTunes | RSS Subscribe: iTunes | RSSDigg grew to a powerhouse site in a very short time. The Popular News Aggregator service continues to be a great place for people to not only read news, but also contribute to what they think is news. Alexa reports that Digg has been fluctuating around the top 100 to 150 sites being viewed. 52.5% of those viewers are in the US. The rumor mill is stirring up again that Google has put interest in buying Digg. TechCrunch reports that the “Rumor” is Digg will be selling for $200 million although CEO Jay Adelson denies it. Will this be a good deal for Digg, or can they grow and survive on their own? Digg started in 2004 by Kevin Rose, Own Byrne, Ron Gorodetzky and Jay Adelson. The idea was to aggregate news items and put popularity to it. People would...

Subscribe: iTunes | RSS Subscribe: iTunes | RSSWeb Apps.  Can we live without them anymore? What did we ever do without them? Webware put out it’s top 100 and we’re going to go through them and see what was good, what was bad, and what was… well, you know.. Webware is a site dedicated to watching what is popping up out on the internet. Any application that a web developer puts out will be checked out and reported on by this organization. It’s a good thing, too. There are so many out there, it’s tough to keep up. On April 21st, Webware put out the list of the top 100 apps. There were ten categories, each with ten winners. There were 5000 nominees, and 300 apps were chosen as finalists. Over 1.9 million votes were cast to dwindle this list down to 100. According to Webware, most of...

Someone is always Challenging Someone – Apple iPhone vs. Blackberry

Subscribe: iTunes | RSS Subscribe: iTunes | RSSToday in the Gym I was watching a report that Apple iPhone was challenging Blackberry for market share in the corporate world. I agreed with the report – Apple has a better user interface than the Blackberry, Blackberry is too expensive in their messaging systems and an iPhone looks a lot better than a Blackberry device. But then I got to thinking about it. Is this really news? I mean, yeah – we’ve got one company trying for a niche that another company has. However what company hasn’t tried to emulate or compete with another company’s corner-hold before?
