No Comments »This last week I saw an interesting trend. Various websites I visited all of a sudden looked different. They ditched their old design and brought a new look to their WebPages. Even here at Geekazine, we are a few days away from introducing a new look. So why did everybody choose this time to change?
I remember back when the web was in its infancy, I read an interesting article where they asked the question – When is the best time to redesign your site? They suggested that if you redesign it too much too quickly, people will start to get turned off and decide to travel elsewhere on the information superhighway.
However, sometimes a redesign is what’s needed to bring more traffic. Moving items in a “More ergonomical” fashion might give a site a better ease of use, therefore people will choose your site over the competitors. And of course, more viewers may mean more money – in theory at least.
No Comments »I have 5 great spots I go to if I need to get out of the house, get something to eat or drink and surf the web. Yes, 2 of those spots serve alcohol, but it’s not about the drinking. It’s all about getting out of the house and working.
Of course, WiFi is important to only a select few that like to take their laptops out and work or surf while having a bite to eat. With more people switching to mobile devices – whether a laptop, smartphone or Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) – people want to know where they can go to get connected. Even if it means just getting directions, checking over the hours of a store you want to visit, or just checking your email – from home or the office.
USAToday reported that Apple is trying to negotiate with Record Labels a plan to allow iPhone and iPod users unlimited access to iTunes for an extra fee. We look at the good and bad and if this plan can work.

I have a great online toolbox. Items that help me work with websites, servers and desktops – and the best part is it’s free. Akismet – or Automatic Kismet is a great little tool that keeps spammers from posting nonsense. I can’t say how Akismet has helped out on this site.
If you look to the left bar on the bottom, it says how many posts have been put in the Akismet quarrantine. These are posts that do nothing but try and improve their sites’ ratings. If you were to read them, it would say something like:
…sombody posted a great article on how much they like Akismet…..
