Netbooks seem to be the newest hot thing. I saw my first one a week ago, and it was slick. It was an XP box, but the user was running Ubuntu Linux under Wubi (we talked geek for almost an hour).
Windows is promising a stripped down version of Windows 7 adapted to netbooks. In this storyBloomberg News considers whether it will help Microsoft’s business model.
I’m never been a gamer, simply because I knew I would never have the time to get good at it. Asking for frustration is something I try not to do. But my gamer sons were always happy with my ATI cards.
The latest ATI drivers are out:

It was a year ago Sunday that started what I called the soap opera “As the MicroYugo turns”. Microsoft put on a bid for Yahoo of $31 a share – 44.6 Billion in cash and stock. Of course the news went on til August as Yahoo said no, then Carl Icahn stepped up, Yahoo gave him a board seat, Jerry Yang stepped down as CEO and finally in January of 2009 Yahoo replaced him with Carol Bartz. However, did you know that the day before the announcement, former CEO Terry Semel broke all ties with Yahoo?
Some other items of note you’ll hear on the Podcast – It’s Timothy McVey day! The LaMaccia Loophole, Craigslist hitman and Yahoo buys Geocities. The first version of Tetris is released, Commodore 264 and 364 – and Microsoft Vista is released to the General public.

When I go out to find a new PC – Many Years from now. Will it be equipped with a floppy drive, 2 gigs of RAM and 1 gig WiFi. Can it process a Terrabyte of data or will it be real slow. Will it be a PC, Intel or AMD, and will it be 64 bit.
Windows 7 is just around the corner. It will have something like 20 versions of it. Most important, it will have 32 bit versions as well as 64 bit versions.

Open Source seems to be a growing movement. Not everything is part of the “GNU General Public License” though. Some have even gone as far to make their own Public License standard.
Microsoft does have some Open Source to them, but what would happen if they took their Operating System to that standard? Would people accept the Microsoft OS, or would they finally make the switch to Linux?

I understand that Microsoft needs to move forward with their Operating Systems. What I don’t understand is all the hype that Windows 7 is getting. Especially for something that won’t come out until possibly 2010.
I remember sitting at my desk on the Windows 95 support team (yep, I worked for but never was employed by Microsoft) previewing an alpha copy of “Nashville” – technically it was suppose to be Windows 96, but the OS was revamped and then scrapped for 98. All I could think of while playing with the browser was “Why when 95 was doing so well?”
